Our Story

Our Story

Stride for Africa is a charitable trust founded in Kenya in 2018, with offices in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County (P.O. Box 698, 30-700). We exist to empower survivors of GBV to rebuild their lives with dignity, access quality education, achieve economic independence and become positive agents of change in their communities.

The idea was born by the Kenyan Romanian athlete Joan Chelimo and Joan Jeriro after losing a long term close friend and fellow Marathoner Miss Tirop through GBV and several recurrent incidences of GBV and the negative effect it had in the community. Having started as a small grassroots initiative, the trust now serves over 5,000 survivors across 12 African countries.

Our strategic location in Iten, known for its athletic training centers and community resilience programs, enables us to leverage local networks for effective outreach. We operate as a verified nonprofit, ensuring 90% of all donations go directly to programs, with secure donation platforms and transparent accountability measures.

The trust is run by 7 members of board trustees to ensure planned programs are implemented in line with the fund's purpose. The trustee board members have clear roles in governance and bring professional expertise that has ensured accountability. The programs are based on the best interest of the beneficiaries which ensures ownership and sustainability.
